VinylPlus Product Label promoted to Belgian architects and construction professionals on Circubuild.be

24/11/2020

Since August 2020, the VinylPlus Product Label is promoted to architects and construction professionals on Circubuild.be – an initiative of the editorial office, Palindroom, aiming at putting forward circular solutions and projects.

Before it could be promoted on Circubuild.be, the VinylPlus Product Label had to go through an assessment carried out by a jury composed of different circularity experts.

Stijn Brancart, expert in circular construction at VIBE vzw and member of the Circubuild.be experts team shared his enthusiasm and further development opportunities that he identified for the VinylPlus Product Label, at the Vinyl Sustainability Forum 2020.

“The fact that the certification is broader than the products and the properties of those products is a strength”

According to Stijn Brancart, the VinylPlus Product Label certification pays a lot of attention to recycling. In addition, he highlighted that there is a particular concern to make possible future reuse, and still sees untapped opportunities in this regard. The fact that the certification is broader than the products and the properties of those products is considered as a strength: the company’s organization and production chain, the relationship with partners, as well as the origin and treatment of materials also play an important role in the transition to circular construction.

“I see untapped opportunities, and the VinylPlus® Product Label has everything in itself to develop in this direction in the future”

As a first step for improvement, Stijn Brancart would suggest to anchor the aspects of the closed technical cycle by paying even more attention to direct reuse, lifespan and operation or business models. In addition, he considers that it would be a great added value to invest in the biological cycle as well. Innovations concerning organic raw materials, or even residual flows, can be encouraged by the Label.
